About us
Maria Cuomo
I graduated with honors in Biology from the Federico II University of Naples in March 2022. In November of the same year, I started my PhD in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Siena. From October 2023 to October 2024, I undertook a research period at the Sbarro Health Research Organization of Temple University in Philadelphia. In March 2024, I received the “Fides et Scientia Vincenzo de Colibus” Prize, 9th edition, in recognition of my contribution to scientific research. Currently, I conduct my research at the Pascale Cancer Institute, in Mercogliano, focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying DNA damage repair.
Paolo Ceriani
Science enthusiast and mountain lover.
I am Paolo a first-year student at the Karolinska Institutet pursuing a Master Degree in Biomedicine.
During my studies I have become passionate and fascinated by how the human body works and how science can help improve people’s health by discovering novel therapeutics. My vocation is to serve others: I like helping people and using my spare time to do so. In fact, I became a red cross rescuer in 2021.
Academically, I am specifically interested in discovering new treatments and cures to improve the life of those who suffer because of an illness. I feel lucky because what I am currently studying is exactly the topic that triggers my curiosity the most. As a researcher, I enjoy digging deeper into the root causes of certain illnesses, like cancer and better understanding how cutting-edge science may find better alternatives to existing treatments.
So this is one of the reasons why I have decided to open “OnkologiK”, for me it is a chance to improve my knowledge and at the same time it is an opportunity for getting informed about these topics without be presumptuous. This is not a website targeted to doctors, researchers, but it’s for the lay public and for people curious like me.
Hopefully one day I may contribute to frontier research, which could potentially save lives, making even a small impact in the field of medicine would mean a lot to me!
